Mid century original artwork by Australian artist, Colin Noel Chandler (under the pseudonym of ‘Murrawin’), c.1960s.
A striking and highly collectible artwork, this is an original oil on velvet piece. The artist spent much of his childhood in the Dandenong Ranges near Melbourne. Bill Onus, an Aboriginal gallery owner, encouraged him to start painting. This mainly consisted of Aboriginal portraiture in oil on velvet. Colin Noel Chandler's art won many prizes during the 1970s and 1980s.
This artwork is a charming portait of an Aboriginal child in it's original timber frame. These artworks were commonly framed without the protection of glass, therefore the velvet does accumulate dust. If desired this could be gently or professionally cleaned in order to frame behind glass to keep the artwork dust free.
