A collectible Royal Doulton Character Jug 'John Barleycorn', made in England, c.1930s.
John Barleycorn was modelled on a personification of the cereal crop barley and the alcoholic beverages produced from it. These character jugs were first introduced in 1934, and they were to be the first in a long line of popular character jugs produced by Royal Doulton.
Designed by C J Noke and produced only between 1934 - 1939. Considering this relatively short timeframe, they remain highly regarded by collectors.
Suitable for decorative display, or to be enjoyed as part of a vintage table or entertaining setting.
