A collectible Royal Doulton Character Jug 'Sam Weller', made in England, c.1940s.
This design was modelled on the Charles Dickens 1837 character, Sam Weller, who was a boot boy at the White Hart Inn. Designed by Harry Fenton and Leslie Harradine, and introduced in 1938.
Number D5841, with 'A' mark, indicating early production.
Royal Doulton produced character jugs for more than six decades, and examples such as these remain highly regarded by collectors.
Suitable for decorative display, or to be enjoyed as part of a vintage table setting.
In excellent vintage condition.
